Pink and Daughter Perform at Democratic National Convention
On August 22, 2024, renowned singer Pink opted for a heartfelt performance of her song “What About Us” during the Democratic National Convention held in Chicago. Joining her was her daughter, Willow Sage, who sang alongside her, making the performance even more special.
The duo, along with their backup singers, delivered a moving rendition of the song’s poignant verses, which include the lines: “We are searchlights, we can see in the dark / We are rockets, pointed up at the stars / We are billions of beautiful hearts / And you sold us down the river too far.” A pink light illuminated the audience, creating a captivating atmosphere.
Earlier in the day, both Pink and Willow were seen rehearsing the single, which was originally released in 2017 to highlight the struggles of communities affected by the Trump administration’s policies, including those of immigrants and same-sex couples.
Last month, Pink publicly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris during a fundraising Zoom call that broke attendance records on the platform, raising nearly $2 million for the campaign.
During the call, Pink expressed her gratitude for women’s voices in politics, stating, “Let’s go. Let’s get loud.” Her commitment to social issues resonated with many, especially as she has been an advocate for LGBTQ rights and reproductive rights, causes that Harris also supports.
The night featured a variety of musical performances. Back in 2020, Pink supported the Biden-Harris ticket, and now her appearance at the DNC continues her legacy of advocating for social change through music.
The Chicks, formerly known as The Dixie Chicks, also performed, singing “The Star-Spangled Banner.” The group is recognized for their past controversies over political statements, particularly regarding the Iraq War, which adds weight to their performance at this significant political event.
