Militello, Italy – Pippo Baudo, one of the most beloved and longest-serving figures in Italian television, died on August 16, 2025, at the age of 89. His family confirmed the news through Ansa, with close friend and attorney Giorgio Assumma providing further details.

Born as Giuseppe Baudo on June 7, 1936, in Militello in Val di Catania, Baudo carved an indelible mark on Italian entertainment history. Although his father hoped he would pursue a career in law, Baudo’s passion led him to the world of showbiz, where he became renowned for his talent as a host and talent scout.

Baudo was celebrated for hosting the Sanremo Music Festival a record 13 times, leading the event to become a staple of Italian culture. He played a pivotal role in discovering and promoting numerous artists, including Lorella Cuccarini, Andrea Bocelli, and Beppe Grillo.

Starting his career in 1966 with the program “Settevoci,” Baudo quickly rose to fame and connected with audiences through his charm and ability to engage with popular culture. Throughout his six-decade career, he hosted over 150 programs, including “Canzonissima,” “Domenica In,” and “Fantastico.”

Baudo’s last public appearance was at the 90th birthday celebration of his friend Pierfrancesco Pingitore. He received various accolades, including the title of Cavaliere di Gran Croce of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, awarded by President Sergio Mattarella.
