Pitbull Surprises Fans at Shakira’s Concert in New Jersey

East Rutherford, New Jersey – Cubano-estadounidense rapper Pitbull surprised fans on Friday, May 16, by opening for Colombian superstar Shakira at MetLife Stadium. He performed a set that featured high-energy tracks including “Hotel Room Service,” Daddy Yankee‘s “Gasolina,” and The White Stripes‘ “Seven Nation Army.” While Pitbull was announced as a special guest, his exact role had not been revealed.
Shakira maintained high energy during her second night in East Rutherford, accompanied by Puerto Rican artist Rauw Alejandro for their hit “Te Felicito.” Though Rauw did not perform the full version, he captivated the audience with his dance moves. Another surprise guest was Wyclef Jean, who reunited with Shakira to perform “Hips Don’t Lie,” after appearing together in Charlotte, North Carolina, just days earlier.
The two-venue show at MetLife went smoothly, despite logistical issues faced by attendees traveling to and from the stadium. Public transportation services were temporarily suspended due to potential labor strikes by the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, who are currently negotiating a contract.
Shakira’s North American tour, “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran,” started this week following record-breaking ticket sales in March. This tour includes stops in Chicago, Boston, Washington D.C., Miami, San Diego, Los Angeles, and more, with the finale set for San Francisco on June 30. Shakira expressed her excitement over reuniting with her North American fans: “I’m happy to share this experience with all of you and continue telling my story through music.”
