Polestar Offers $20,000 Discounts to Tesla Owners Amid Growing Discontent

LOS ANGELES, California — In a bold move aimed at attracting disillusioned Tesla owners, Polestar is offering up to $20,000 off on leases for its Polestar 3 electric vehicle, aiming to capitalize on growing frustrations with Tesla CEO Elon Musk. The promotional offer started on February 21 and runs through February 28.
Polestar’s incentive includes a $15,000 discount for prospective Polestar 3 lessees, partly due to federal EV leasing credits, and an additional $5,000, labeled the “Conquest Bonus,” exclusively for current Tesla owners looking to switch. This deal offers a significant reduction in monthly lease payments that typically begin at $599, making it a financially attractive alternative for Tesla drivers.
“We want to give Tesla owners an option that not only saves them money but also shifts them into a vehicle that’s designed to be more user-friendly and less frustrating,” said a Polestar spokesperson. The Polestar 3 comes in two configurations: a base single-motor model and a higher-priced dual-motor version, both competing directly with Tesla’s offerings.
Consumer dissatisfaction with Tesla has been rising, especially following Musk’s increased involvement in political discourse and his recent role as a government contractor focused on budget cuts. This change has prompted protests and public statements from notable figures, including music artist Sheryl Crow, who recently sold her Tesla.
“There comes a time when you have to decide who you are willing to align with. So long, Tesla,” Crow stated in an Instagram post, reflecting a sentiment shared by many former Tesla owners.
Despite the enthusiasm surrounding Polestar’s promotional campaign, the Swedish EV brand, owned by Chinese automaker Geely, has faced its own challenges, including a significant drop in sales last year. The rollout of the Polestar 3 and the upcoming Polestar 4 models are seen as crucial for rejuvenating interest in the brand.
Michael Lohscheller, Polestar’s CEO, has criticized Musk’s political implications. “For Germany, somebody outside of the country endorsing right-wing political parties is a big thing. I think it’s totally unacceptable,” he said in a statement to Bloomberg.
The Polestar 3 features a sleek, modern design and is equipped with an extensive range of technology, including an Android-based infotainment system that integrates Google Maps and other applications. The EV can charge at rates of up to 250 kW, allowing for rapid charging at Tesla Supercharger stations across the U.S., which adds to its appeal for current Tesla drivers.
As the offer to Tesla owners remains valid only until February 28, Polestar is calling on those looking for a fresh start in the EV market to take action swiftly.
