Poll Shows Nearly Half of Americans Fail Trump’s First 100 Days

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A new poll reveals that nearly half of Americans graded President Donald Trump‘s performance during his first 100 days of his second term as an “F.” The survey, conducted from April 21-23, 2025, indicates that 45% of U.S. adults believe Trump deserves a failing score, while only 23% rated him an “A.” The poll was carried out by PBS News, NPR, and the Marist Institute for Public Opinion.
As Trump marks this milestone, his approval ratings are near record lows. Among Republicans, 54% awarded him an “A,” but the numbers are starkly divided along party lines. In fact, 80% of Democrats and nearly half of independents gave him failing marks. The political landscape shows a significant drop in support from independents, which could impact upcoming midterm elections, according to analysts.
Many Americans express concern regarding how Trump is handling critical issues such as the economy and immigration. The poll found that 53% of respondents disapprove of his overall performance. His approval rating on economic matters is particularly troubling, with only 39% approving of his handling compared to 55% who disapprove.
Trump’s administration is also facing scrutiny regarding the economic impact of tariffs. As he implemented strict tariffs on imports, concerns about rising grocery prices have emerged. Approximately 64% of Americans believe these prices will increase in the coming months. Many voters, especially independents, feel that Trump’s trade policies have contributed to their economic struggles.
Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist Institute, highlighted the polarization in public opinion. He noted that while Trump retains strong backing from Republican voters, independents appear increasingly dissatisfied, posing a potential challenge for Congress members seeking reelection.
As Trump continues to navigate his presidency, many are waiting to see how his policies evolve and whether they can regain support from disillusioned voters. The first 100 days offer a glimpse into the challenges he faces in unifying the country amidst growing dissent.
