K-Pop Stars Stray Kids and Jimin Dominate Billboard 200
This week, K-pop sensations Stray Kids and Jimin from BTS are making waves on the Billboard 200 chart. Their new projects, “Ate” and “Muse,” have debuted at the top two positions, something we’ve never seen from K-pop artists before!
Stray Kids have set a record with “Ate,” becoming the first group to debut at number one with their first five charting albums. They achieved a fantastic 232,000 equivalent album units, according to Luminate, making this the biggest week for a K-pop album in 2024 so far.
Their impressive numbers were boosted by the release of 11 different CD variants, contributing to their success. This week, they had the second-largest sales for any album this year, just behind Taylor Swift‘s album, “The Tortured Poets Department.”
Meanwhile, Jimin’s new album, “Muse,” takes the number two spot on the Billboard 200. This marks Jimin’s second solo album to hit that position, following his previous album, “Face.” “Muse” debuted with 96,000 equivalent album units and includes popular tracks like “Smeraldo Garden Marching Band,” featuring Loco, and “Who.”
Also entering the chart is the soundtrack for the film “Twisters: The Album,” landing at No. 7 with 57,000 equivalent album units. This album features country artists like Lainey Wilson and Luke Combs and marks a significant achievement as the first soundtrack to reach the top 10 this year.
Eminem‘s album, “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce),” which debuted last week, dropped to the third slot, while Taylor Swift’s album follows closely behind. Other top entries on the chart include Chappell Roan‘s album and Billie Eilish‘s latest project.
On the Hot 100 chart, Shaboozey’s catchy track “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” remains popular, topping the chart for its third week. Teddy Swims is celebrating a milestone as his song “Lose Control” ties for the 10th most weeks spent in the top 10 for any song this decade.
There’s not much change in the top five of the Hot 100, with Post Malone, Kendrick Lamar, Tommy Richman, and Sabrina Carpenter all holding strong positions.
