Porsche 911 Undergoes Ambitious Transformation: From Boring to Bold
A Porsche 911, beloved by car enthusiasts, is undergoing an ambitious transformation that aims to bring its charm to a whole new level. This project involves combining modern and period features to create a unique and eye-catching vehicle. The journey to revamp this car began with the removal of the old metal and sunroof cassette, making way for a sleek new carbon roof.
In the capable hands of Taylor at Wyoming Autobody Specialists, the first step was to give the carbon roof a flawless finish. With windows and roof channel trim removed, the process involved painstakingly drilling out numerous rivets. As the car sat there without its roof, the owner couldn’t help but imagine driving it, but the freezing temperature and unsuitable tires made it impossible at the moment.
The next stages of the transformation will see the removal of doors, fenders, bumpers, and trim. These parts will be prepared for a brand-new coat of paint, bringing life and character to the car. The original color, Seal Grey, was deemed too dull for the owner’s tastes, so they opted for an intriguing shade called Teal Blue. This color was available in the late 1990s and early 2000s, giving the car the vibrant energy it deserves as a main character on the road.
While the exterior goes through its makeover, the interior is not forgotten. The owner contacted SLC Interiors to discuss the re-coloring of the car’s interior. However, due to the shop’s busy schedule, the interior work won’t take place until next fall. This gives the owner time to save up for the upcoming paint job. If the mild weather persists, they might even be able to postpone the interior work to December and continue enjoying the car throughout the fall season.
To add to the excitement, the seats were disassembled and sent to Two Brothers for color-matching with the exterior. The seat hardbacks, center console, and wheel centers will all sport the Teal Blue hue, creating a striking and cohesive look throughout the vehicle. The final result will embody a blast from the late 1990s, with the car’s appearance reminiscent of the era.
The project is still a work in progress, but progress is indeed being made. Every step is taken with care and love, as the owner has a long-term plan for this car. With hopes of driving it for another 300,000 miles, it’s vital to treat it right and ensure it stands the test of time. The anticipation for the completed look is high, and when the transformation is complete, this Porsche 911 will undoubtedly turn heads on the streets.
