Post Malone: From Grapevine Teen to Country Music Sensation

ARLINGTON, Texas — Once a shy teenager at Grapevine High School, Post Malone, known as Austin Post in his earlier days, is now making significant waves in the country music scene. Born on July 4, 1995, in Syracuse, N.Y., Malone moved to Texas with his father, who managed concessions for the Dallas Cowboys. His mother stayed behind in New York, but his father’s support played a crucial role in Austin’s budding music career.
In high school, Malone stood out not just for his music aspirations but also for his engaging personality. Bryan Humphreys, his U.S. History teacher, described him as “very shy but funny and inquisitive.” This attribute perhaps contributed to Malone’s ability to blend into various social groups, making friends across the school spectrum.
Music became an escape for Malone. He learned guitar from Guitar Hero, and soon after, he was performing at local venues such as Napoli’s in Grapevine. Jaime Gage, the manager at Napoli’s, recalls him as a respectful kid who loved engaging in music. “He did a lot of old-school country, classic rock,” Gage said.
Following his graduation in 2013, Malone moved to Los Angeles, where he started getting noticed in the hip-hop scene. His breakout single, “White Iverson,” quickly rose to fame and garnered millions of streams. From there, Malone has released six studio albums, won multiple awards, and established himself as a multi-genre artist.
Post Malone is now also recognized for his contributions to country music. His recent album, “F-1 Trillion,” marked his first foray into the genre, featuring collaborations with prominent country artists like Morgan Wallen and Blake Shelton. Tracks such as “I Had Some Help” and “Pour Me a Drink” highlight his versatility as an artist.
With five nominations at this year’s Academy of Country Music Awards, including Album of the Year, the community in North Texas is rallying behind the artist. His father, Rich Post, expressed pride in Austin’s journey, noting his son’s humble beginnings. “He was like most normal kids, floating from one interest to another… but everything changed when he picked up Guitar Hero,” Rich said.
Despite his rise to stardom, Malone has remained connected to his roots in Texas. As he prepares to perform at his upcoming concert in Arlington, excitement builds within the local community, eager to celebrate one of their own.
