Production Begins on Spaceballs 2 with Original Cast and New Additions

LOS ANGELES, CA — Amazon MGM Studios has officially announced the start of production on the long-awaited sequel to the 1987 cult classic, Spaceballs. The new film, currently untitled, features original cast members Rick Moranis, Bill Pullman, Daphne Zuniga, and Mel Brooks reprising their iconic roles.
Filming began recently, and the studio celebrated with a black-and-white table read photo featuring the cast and crew. In addition to returning favorites, the sequel includes new cast members, such as Anthony Carrigan, Josh Gad, Keke Palmer, and Lewis Pullman.
Moranis returns as the villainous Dark Helmet, while Pullman reprises his role as the heroic Lone Starr and Zuniga as Princess Vespa. Mel Brooks will once again portray both Yogurt and President Skroob.
Josh Greenbaum is directing the film, with a script by writers Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez. The duo is known for their work on various animated projects, including Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy.
Producers for the film include industry veterans Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, and Jeb Brody, alongside Brooks, Gad, Greenbaum, and Kevin Salter. Adam Merims, Samit, and Hernandez will serve as executive producers.
While plot details are closely guarded, Spaceballs 2 is expected to pay homage to its predecessor, which was a comedic parody of major sci-fi franchises including Star Wars. The original film grossed over $38 million in the U.S. and remains a beloved classic.
Fans can anticipate the film’s theatrical release, which is scheduled for 2027. With its blend of original characters and fresh talent, Spaceballs 2 aims to reawaken the humor and charm of the franchise.
