Puerto Rican Culture Celebrated at Bronx Festival

BRONX, New York — The 152nd Street Cultural Festival kicks off the National Puerto Rican Day Parade this Saturday, showcasing the vibrant culture of Puerto Rico. The festival celebrates its heritage with various activities, food, and entertainment, marking its annual occurrence since 1995.
Running from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. along 152nd Street between Jackson and Tinton Avenues, the family-friendly event is free for all attendees. Local vendors will offer traditional foods, while artisans display their crafts, ensuring a lively atmosphere filled with Puerto Rican music and dance.
The theme for the upcoming National Puerto Rican Day Parade, ‘Un Pueblo, Muchas Voces’ (One Nation, Many Voices), highlights the creativity and diversity of Puerto Rican people. The festival serves as an introduction to the larger celebration occurring on Fifth Avenue, where the parade will take place.
“The National Puerto Rican Day Parade is not just a celebration; it’s a chance for our community to connect, educate the younger generation, and exhibit pride in our heritage,” said a festival organizer. “There’s so much to celebrate—our history, our achievements, and our unity.”
The event also features a children’s pavilion where young attendees can enjoy storytelling, face painting, and various art projects. This focus on family makes the festival an important gathering for Puerto Rican families in the area.
In addition to the festival, the National Puerto Rican Day Parade annually raises scholarship funds for high school and college students of Puerto Rican descent. Historically, the parade has distributed over $1.6 million in scholarships to help young people succeed academically.
The gala preceding the parade will take place on June 6, and this year’s main parade will happen on June 8, marching up Fifth Avenue. These events not only celebrate Puerto Rican culture but also foster community spirit and pride.
