Québécois Pop Singer Emmanuëlle Passes Away At 81

The renowned Québécois pop singer Emmanuëlle, known for her hits in the 1970s and 1980s, has sadly passed away at the age of 81. The news of her death was shared on social media by the songwriter Stéphane Venne, who collaborated on many of her popular songs.

Emmanuëlle, whose real name was Ginette Fillion, was born in Montréal in 1942. She started her musical journey by studying classical singing at the École de musique Vincent d’Indy in Outremont.

One of her most enduring hits, ‘Et c’est pas fini,’ written in 1973, remains a beloved song in the Québécois collective memory. This iconic track was even performed by the inaugural class of Star Académie a few years ago.

Stéphane Venne, a prolific songwriter, penned songs like ‘Le monde à l’envers’ and ‘Parle-moi de notre pays’ for Emmanuëlle, contributing to her musical success.

Emmanuëlle’s rise to fame began with the track ‘Emmène-moi vers le soleil,’ written by Luc Plamondon in 1972. She continued to blossom in her career, even writing songs like ‘Ma chanson’ in 1975.

Aside from her music career, Emmanuëlle’s voice became recognizable in Québec during the 1970s through her work on the commercials for the store chain La Baie.

In 2010, she released her autobiography titled ‘Emmanuëlle, démesures et passions,’ offering a glimpse into her life and career in the spotlight. Collaborating with fellow Québécois artists, she participated in various musical projects over the years.

Although details surrounding Emmanuëlle’s passing have not been disclosed, social media posts suggest that she may have been battling Alzheimer’s disease. The news was first reported by Stéphane Venne on social platforms.

With contributions from La Presse canadienne, the music industry mourns the loss of a talented artist who left a lasting impact on the Québécois cultural landscape.
