Quiet Achiever’ Truck Art: A Pillar in Australia’s Heavy Vehicle Industry
Truck Art, a burgeoning name in the Australian heavy vehicle services industry, has quietly carved out a significant niche since its inception over 40 years ago. Founder and owner Terry Gibbs first established the business as a heavy vehicle spray painting operation in Wagga Wagga. Over the years, Truck Art has expanded its services considerably, making an indelible mark on the industry.
What began as a modest spray painting enterprise has evolved into a diversified player within the industry. Truck Art’s journey included moving into heavy vehicle smash repairs and the manufacture and supply of sleeper cabs for prime movers. Recognizing a gap in managing driver fatigue, Gibbs capitalized on offering cab cooling solutions, starting with the Viesa air conditioner systems. This move proved lucrative, leading to additional offerings like Koolkat, Ecowind, and Kompressor air conditioners.
Truck Art’s expansion did not stop at cooling solutions. With a growing demand from interstate customers, the company established Truck Art Melbourne in North Altona and Truck Art Adelaide in Mawson Lakes, specializing in sleeper cab air conditioning installations. Further diversifying its portfolio, Truck Art acquired Dickinson Trailers in 2010, rebranding it as Truck Art Trailers. This division focuses on manufacturing custom-built livestock trailers and bulk stock haulage vehicles, offering bespoke features tailored to the needs of the sector.
In its quest to innovate within the heavy vehicle industry, Truck Art recently introduced the VIGIA automatic tyre inflation and management systems, enhancing vehicle safety and efficiency. Concurrently, Truck Art Wagga augmented its services by adding sandblasting, accessory fit-ups, dovetail manufacture and installation, and 24/7 heavy vehicle towing to its repertoire.
Another significant milestone was Truck Art Wagga’s designation as a Premium Repairer for National Transport Insurance (NTI) in 2018, enabling it to deliver high-quality repair services. In 2021, Truck Art expanded further by acquiring a business that imported air conditioning and tyre inflation systems, which led to the creation of Truck Art Distributors. This arm of the business facilitates distribution across Australian states.
Today, the Truck Art Business Group operates with a 90-strong workforce across five sites in three states. The group continues to play a vital role in supporting the Australian heavy vehicle industry, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to quality and innovation.
