Rams’ Split Backfield Shines in Week 4 Win Over Colts

INGLEWOOD, Calif. — The Los Angeles Rams improved their record to 3-1 with a 27-20 victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. The Rams showcased a balanced running game, featuring Kyren Williams and Blake Corum in a more even split of carries than previous weeks.
In Week 4, Williams had 13 carries and played 68% of the snaps, while Corum had nine carries and saw 29.3% of the snaps. This distribution marks both the season highs and lows for each player in terms of carries and playing time.
Head coach Sean McVay emphasized the importance of involving both running backs in the game’s strategy. “Both backs did a great job together,” McVay said. “It’s important to get them both involved.” Despite a late-game fumble by Williams, McVay decided to keep him on the field, citing his ability to bounce back from mistakes.
In the game, the Rams’ passing offense was on display as quarterback Matthew Stafford threw for 375 yards and three touchdowns. His primary target, Puka Nacua, caught 13 passes for 170 yards and was a significant contributor to the offensive success.
The Rams’ run game struggled somewhat, with a total of only 102 yards gained, the lowest since Week 1. However, it was enough to control the pace of the game, allowing Stafford to connect with receivers effectively.
Next week, the Rams face the San Francisco 49ers, a team that just allowed 151 rushing yards to the Jacksonville Jaguars. McVay will once again look to utilize both running backs in a similar manner to the Colts game.
Defensively, the Rams intercepted Colts quarterback Daniel Jones twice and had an overall solid performance despite giving up 20 points and 262 passing yards. The defensive line registered seven quarterback hits, though only managed two sacks.
Looking ahead, the Rams hope to maintain momentum in the NFC West, now tied at the top of the division with the 49ers and Seattle Seahawks.
