Randy Travis Country Music Icon Performance

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Country music star Randy Travis is set to make a special appearance at NBC‘s “Opry 100: A Live Celebration” on March 19, 2025, marking over a decade since he survived a life-threatening stroke. The event, which commemorates the Grand Ole Opry‘s centennial, will be broadcast live starting at 8 p.m. ET on NBC and simulcast on Peacock.

Travis, now 65, delighted fans recently with an unexpected performance at the Grand Ole Opry, nearly 39 years after his debut at Nashville’s iconic venue. During the event, he announced a biopic titled “Forever and Ever, Amen!” that will chronicle his life and career, which he will executive produce alongside his wife, Mary Travis.

The country music legend will also embark on a tour in 2025, performing with his original band and special guest James Dupré. “The More Life Tour celebrates something far greater than just a musical moment; it’s a gift to me to spend time with my fans and my band,” Travis said in a statement.

Travis’ recovery journey has been significant, as he has faced the aftermath of a stroke he had in 2013 that resulted in aphasia—a communication disorder. In a recent interview, Mary Travis recounted a poignant moment during his hospitalization: “Even in his semi-coma state, he squeezed my hand. I just went back to the doctors and said, ‘We’re fighting this.’”

Over the years, Travis has shown remarkable determination, relearning to walk and managing the challenges of aphasia, which impacts his ability to speak. Mary emphasized, “Randy understands everything, it’s just that he can’t communicate as effectively as he once did.”

Despite these obstacles, Travis has returned to music, releasing his first new single since his stroke, titled “Where That Came From.” This song utilized AI technology to help recreate his voice from past recordings. Mary described witnessing Randy listen to the finished track, recalling, “He was surprised and then very pensive. In those three minutes, he went through every emotion there was.”

The Opry 100 celebration will gather numerous country stars to commemorate the storied history of the genre. “The Grand Ole Opry has been connecting the country music family for 100 years, and I’m so proud to be part of this historic celebration,” said event host Blake Shelton, who joined the Opry as a member in 2010.

Viewers can expect a star-studded lineup honoring past legends while also highlighting current icons in country music’s evolution. The event aims to foster a sense of unity among fans and artists, showcasing the rich heritage of the Grand Ole Opry.

The three-hour special will feature performances and tributes from a variety of country music stars, ensuring a memorable night for audiences across the nation.
