New York Rangers Vs Toronto Maple Leafs Hockey

TORONTO, Canada — The New York Rangers will attempt to end their historic scoring drought as they take on the Toronto Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Arena Thursday night. The Rangers are the first team in NHL history to be held scoreless in their first three home games of a season, following a frustrating 2-0 loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday.

Despite firing 90 shots on goal across those home games, the Rangers (2-3-0) have yet to find the back of the net. Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin, who is having an outstanding season with a .972 save percentage, will look to maintain his high level of play against the Maple Leafs.

The Rangers have found some success on the road, winning both of their away games by a combined score of 10-1. Rangers head coach Gerard Gallant believes his team has played well despite their home struggles and is optimistic about their upcoming matchup in Toronto.

Toronto (2-2-0) has also been strong at home, capitalizing on recent offensive contributions from players like Auston Matthews, who scored two goals in a 7-4 victory against the Nashville Predators on Tuesday. Coach Craig Berube confirmed that William Nylander, who missed the morning skate for maintenance, will be in the lineup.

Injuries could play a role in the matchup, as the Rangers anticipate a possible game-time decision on defenseman Will Borgen, who is dealing with a lower-body injury. The Rangers have called up Scott Morrow from the American Hockey League to provide depth on defense.

Both teams aim to improve on special teams as the Rangers have yet to allow a power-play goal this season. In contrast, the Maple Leafs are still seeking their first power-play goal after scoring opportunities in their first four games.

Fans can tune in to the game, which starts at 7 p.m. ET, on MSG. The matchup promises excitement as both teams strive to enhance their standings in the early part of the season.
