Rangers’ J.T. Miller Day-to-Day After Practice Injury
Greenburgh, New York – New York Rangers captain J.T. Miller is day-to-day with a lower-body injury sustained during practice on September 29, 2025. The injury occurred while Miller lunged for a puck during a power-play drill, according to reports.
Video footage from The Athletic shows Miller grabbing the back of his left leg before skating off the ice slowly and gingerly. Rangers coach Mike Sullivan was on the ice at the time of the incident, as he worked with a separate group preparing for a preseason matchup against the New York Islanders.
“Excuse me, I just found out it myself when I got off the ice,” Sullivan said. “All I can tell you is that he’s being evaluated right now.”
Details on the severity of Miller’s injury are still unclear, but there are growing concerns about the impact it may have on the team’s roster depth as the regular season approaches. The Rangers will be hoping it is not a long-term concern.
Miller was named the 29th captain in Rangers history on September 16, 2025, and was traded to New York from the Vancouver Canucks in January. In 32 games with the Rangers last season, he tallied 13 goals and 35 points, continuing a strong performance that began with 22 goals and 48 assists in the 2024-25 season.
As the Rangers prepare for their season opener against the Pittsburgh Penguins on October 7 at Madison Square Garden, the team will keep a close eye on Miller’s recovery. His leadership and skill will be essential as they look to start the season on a positive note.
