Rapper Rich Homie Quan Reportedly Dies at Home
FULTON COUNTY, Ga. – Social media is buzzing with reports that rapper Rich Homie Quan, whose real name is Dequantes Devontay Lamar, has passed away due to a drug overdose. Thugger Daily, a social media personality known for following the Young Thug and YSL trial closely, was among the first to share the news.
While Thugger Daily claims to have received information from two reliable sources, he acknowledged that this information has not been confirmed. Furthermore, the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office informed FOX 5 Atlanta that they cannot confirm or deny any details regarding Dequantes Devontay Lamar’s death at this time. Nevertheless, Lamar’s family has reportedly communicated that he died on Thursday at his residence.
Rich Homie Quan began his rapping career in 2011, attaining mainstream success with his hit single “Type of Way” in 2013. His 2015 track, “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh),” further solidified his popularity. Over the years, he has received multiple nominations for prestigious awards, including the BET Hip Hop Awards for Best New Artist and Best Club Banger in 2014 and 2015, as well as a nomination for iHeartRadio Music Awards’ Hip Hop Song of the Year in 2016.
Lamar, originally from Atlanta, exhibited athletic talent in baseball during his time at Ronald McNair Sr. High School, aspiring to become a professional player. He briefly attended Fort Valley State University before reportedly leaving due to financial issues. In 2014, a tragic event occurred when his father, Corey Lamar, was shot at his barbershop; it was later alleged by former star witness Kenneth “Lil Woody” Copeland that he and a companion known as “Threat” were behind the shooting.
In 2017, Lamar encountered legal issues when he was stopped by police in Louisville, Georgia, leading to a charge for felony drug possession with intent to distribute. This charge was ultimately dismissed.
Fans and followers are currently reflecting on Lamar’s legacy, with many commenting on his last Instagram post, made just two days before the reports of his passing surfaced. The situation continues to develop, and further updates are anticipated.
