Rapper Yachty Admits Past Relationship Mistakes in Candid Podcast Interview

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Rapper Lil Yachty opened up about his past relationship with singer Mariah The Scientist during a recent interview on the Club Shay Shay podcast, admitting he was not a good partner to her during their time together.

In the interview, which aired on January 29, 2025, Yachty, 27, reflected on his high school and college romance with Mariah, also 27, around the two-hour, seven-minute mark. Although he did not mention her by name, the context made it clear he was referring to Mariah, who had previously discussed their relationship on the Caresha Please podcast in October 2024.

“I was a shit person to her,” Yachty said. “She was really great. So great, so I get it. She was a great person though, man.” He added that Mariah had been respectful in her public comments about their relationship, saying, “She didn’t shit on me, you know? I know what you’re talking about, but I brought it upon myself. She ain’t tell no lies.”

When asked if he had apologized to Mariah, Yachty gave a vague response, citing the length of time since their relationship. “Our relationship is such a long span, you know? Since high school, so it’s long and blurry,” he said. “YOLO, bro. Shout out to her. Tons of love. And I respect her.”

Mariah had previously confirmed their relationship on Caresha Please, explaining that they met in high school but only began dating when she was in college. “I met him in high school, though by the time I got to college we started dating a little bit or whatever, and I felt his career was taking off and he had all these things,” she said. “I didn’t know what to do, like, or what I could give him, ’cause I was just a broke college student.”

Mariah recalled creating two songs for Yachty and gifting them to him on an iPod, which she signed. However, Yachty told her he did not want to listen to the songs. “He told me he did not want to listen to it because he didn’t want to shit on me,” she said. “At the time, I was trying to give him the benefit of the doubt.”

Despite the disappointment, Mariah’s friends encouraged her to pursue music, leading to her successful career as a singer. She has been in a relationship with rapper Lil Baby, 33, since 2021.
