Rare PlayStation 30th Anniversary PS5 Restock Hits Stores Today

NEW YORK — Sony’s PlayStation Direct store will restock its highly sought-after PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection today, January 23, 2025, at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT. The limited-edition console and accessories, which were previously thought to be out of stock, will be available exclusively through the online store.

The restock includes the PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection console, DualSense Edge Anniversary Edition controller, and PlayStation Portal in anniversary colors. However, the ultra-rare PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary Edition, of which only 12,300 units were produced worldwide, will not be available. Each of these numbered consoles sold for $1,000 during its initial release.

Shoppers will need to join a virtual queue starting at 1 p.m. ET to access the store. Sony has not confirmed whether other retailers, such as Walmart, Best Buy, Target, Amazon, GameStop, or Sam’s Club, will receive additional stock. The limited availability of the PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary Edition makes it one of the most elusive gaming items on the market.

The 30th Anniversary Collection pays homage to the original PlayStation console, featuring a gray shell reminiscent of the 1994 design. The collection also includes special packaging and accessories, such as a USB-C charging cable styled after the original PlayStation’s cable, a sticker, and cable ties with PlayStation-themed designs.

According to Sony, the DualSense Edge Anniversary Edition controller, priced at $220, is exclusive to PlayStation Direct. The PlayStation Portal, which has gained popularity among PS5 owners, is also part of the restock, featuring the anniversary color scheme.

Fans of the PlayStation brand have been eagerly awaiting this restock, as the 30th Anniversary Collection has been out of stock since before Christmas 2024. The limited production run and high demand have made these items a collector’s dream.

As of now, there is no indication that Sony will produce additional PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary Edition consoles, as doing so could diminish the value for initial buyers. However, if availability changes, updates will be provided promptly.
