Reclusive Hollywood veteran Gene Hackman was recently sighted enjoying a leisurely stroll in scenic Santa Fe, New Mexico. The 94-year-old retired actor, known for his acclaimed performances in movies like “Mississippi Burning” and “Bonnie and Clyde,” has largely stayed out of the public eye since his retirement in 2004.

In the new photos obtained by The Post, Hackman can be seen casually dressed in a baseball cap, vest, and flannel shirt as he ambles through the streets of Santa Fe on April 5. Despite his age, the legendary actor appeared sprightly and did not rely on a cane as he went about his errands.

Having made Santa Fe his home since the ’80s, Hackman leads a low-profile life with his wife Arakawa, a talented pianist whom he married in 1992. His first marriage was to Faye Maltese, with whom he had three children before the couple divorced in 1986.

In a rare 2004 interview with Larry King, Hackman expressed his reluctance for public appearances and interviews, stating that he finds discussing himself uncomfortable. Despite this, he reflected fondly on his acting career, which was influenced by his mother’s early encouragement after a movie outing.

Reflecting on his decision to retire from acting, Hackman remarked, “It’s probably all over.” However, he did leave a slight window open for a return to the craft, jokingly suggesting that he might consider working on another movie if it could be done from the comfort of his house with minimal disruption.

Aside from his acting career, Hackman has also ventured into writing, penning several novels post-retirement. Despite his numerous accomplishments in Hollywood, the humble actor once told Larry King that he never viewed himself as a star, citing other actors like Warren Beatty, Robert Redford, and Brad Pitt as examples of celebrities he considers stars.
