Red Dead Redemption 2 Sales News

NEW YORK, NY — Rockstar Games announced on November 6 that Red Dead Redemption 2 has officially become the fourth best-selling video game of all time, surpassing Nintendo’s Mario Kart 8. The game has sold over 79 million copies worldwide since its release in 2018, contributing to a total of 106 million units sold across the entire Red Dead Redemption series.

The significant sales achievement makes Red Dead Redemption 2 the best-selling title in the United States over the last seven years, based on dollar sales. The figures released by Rockstar highlight its position among iconic games, with only Minecraft, Grand Theft Auto V, and Wii Sports ahead in all-time sales.

Prior to this announcement, Mario Kart 8 held the fourth spot with approximately 78 million sales. Other top-selling games include Grand Theft Auto V with 220 million copies sold and Wii Sports at nearly 83 million. The Red Dead Redemption franchise’s staying power is notable, especially considering the competition among successful titles released in recent years.

Despite the huge success, Rockstar has not confirmed a sequel, Red Dead Redemption 3. Dan Houser, co-founder of Rockstar Games, expressed that while the possibility exists, he does not own the intellectual property rights. He mentioned, “It’s a privilege to work on stuff, but you don’t necessarily own it.”

Roger Clark, who voiced main character Arthur Morgan in Red Dead Redemption 2, expressed confidence that another installment will be made but clarified that he has no knowledge of its timing. He noted, “I’m certain we will see Red Redemption 3 one day… but I highly doubt Arthur’s involvement.”

As of now, Red Dead Redemption 2 is widely regarded as one of the best video games ever made. Critics have praised its storytelling and immersive gameplay, describing it as a “meticulously polished open-world ode to the outlaw era.” With its sales continuing to grow, fans remain hopeful for what’s next in the franchise.
