Reese Witherspoon Black Skater Skirt New York Premiere

NEW YORK, N.Y. — Reese Witherspoon brought back a nostalgic fashion trend at the New York screening of her upcoming film, “You’re Cordially Invited,” on January 29, 2025. The actress wore a black two-piece set featuring a ruffled skater skirt, reminiscent of the 2010s silhouette popularized by brands like American Apparel.

Witherspoon’s outfit included a round-neck, zip-up jacket with gold hardware and a matching tiered skater skirt. The look, paired with black heels and her signature blonde hair, offered a modern twist on the classic little black dress. The actress has frequently reimagined the LBD, with recent appearances in one-shoulder and asymmetrical designs.

“You’re Cordially Invited,” a comedy co-starring Will Ferrell, follows the chaos of two weddings accidentally booked at the same venue. Witherspoon plays Margot, a reality TV executive, while Ferrell portrays Jim, an overly involved father. The film, directed by Nicholas Stoller, blends elements of “Father of the Bride” and “Wedding Crashers.”

At the UK premiere earlier in the week, Witherspoon described the film as “a classic 1930s movie” and praised one scene as “one of the best I’ve ever done in my whole life.” The movie, rated R for language and sexual references, will be available for streaming on Prime Video starting January 30.

The supporting cast includes Geraldine Viswanathan, Meredith Hagner, and Jimmy Tatro, with standout performances by Celia Weston as a disapproving matriarch. Despite its predictable plot, the film benefits from its talented ensemble and Ferrell’s comedic timing.

Witherspoon’s fashion choice not only highlighted her style evolution but also reignited interest in the skater skirt, a staple of mid-2010s wardrobes. The actress continues to balance her roles as a fashion icon and a versatile performer, proving her enduring appeal in both realms.
