At the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday, reigning major champions Brian Harman and Wyndham Clark are among those on the edge heading into Friday’s play at Muirfield Village where a 36-hole cut rule threatens their weekend prospects.

The Memorial, being a limited-field event, imposes a strict cut to the top 50 players and ties, with additional allowances for those within 10 strokes of the lead. The competition was fierce after Thursday’s round, with projections showing a cut at 3-over 75 for the top 50 and ties, while the 10-shot rule may push it to 4-over 76 based on leader Adam Hadwin‘s stellar 6-under 66.

Clark and Harman, both opening with challenging 5-over 77 rounds, face an uncertain fate, needing a strong performance on Friday to secure a spot for the weekend at the Memorial. The field of 73 players at Muirfield Village grappled with tough conditions on Thursday, and the intensity is expected to rise on Friday, posing a formidable challenge for those fighting to make the cut.

Players like Denny McCarthy, Rickie Fowler, Ben Griffin, and Sungjae Im are hovering around the projected cut line of 4-over, alongside Cameron Young, Harris English, and Kurt Kitayama. If the projections hold, 61 out of the 73 players in the field are likely to advance to the weekend rounds at the Memorial.

The Memorial Tournament boasts a lucrative $20 million purse, offering a winner’s share of $4 million along with 700 FedExCup points. Players missing the cut will not earn FedExCup points or prize money, emphasizing the significance of every stroke in the fiercely competitive Memorial field.
