Renowned Quebec Actor and Director Benoît Dagenais Passes Away at 71

The Quebec entertainment industry is mourning the sudden loss of the talented actor and former director of the Conservatoire d’art dramatique de Montréal, Benoît Dagenais, who passed away at the age of 71 on June 27. His agency, Eugénie Guillard, confirmed this tragic news on Tuesday.

Born on April 10, 1953, Benoît Dagenais graduated from the Conservatoire d’art dramatique de Montréal in 1977 and later became a teacher in 1993 before assuming the directorship in 2012.

Benoît Dagenais was a prolific figure in theatre, having participated in over 80 productions including notable plays like Les Trois Sœurs, Hôtel pacifique, and Caravansérail. His presence on television screens was equally impactful, with roles in popular series such as Watatatow, Fortier, and 30 Vies.

His contributions to the big screen were also significant, featuring in movies like Nouvelle-France and 15 février 1839 under the direction of renowned filmmakers like Pierre Falardeau. Benoît Dagenais is survived by his partner Anne-Marie Provencher and their daughter Ève Provencher-Dagenais.
