Terry Luttrell Reo Speedwagon Concert Car Accident

Champaign-Urbana, Illinois — Former REO Speedwagon lead vocalist Terry Luttrell was injured in a car accident on Sunday morning after reportedly falling asleep at the wheel. The 78-year-old singer was driving home following the band’s farewell concert at the State Farm Center the previous night.

Luttrell crashed his car on the interstate after the reunion concert, which brought together current and former REO Speedwagon members. Notably, current lead singer Kevin Cronin did not attend due to prior commitments.

“I was able to get up and get out of the car,” Luttrell said, describing the accident. However, he noted that he did sustain injuries. “The airbag went off and cracked my sternum a little bit. I have a little back pain and neck pain. It’s nothing that can’t be overcome,” he added.

After the concert, Luttrell had been signing autographs for fans until 2 a.m. He reported getting only a few hours of sleep before hitting the road again around 4:30 a.m., which led to him dozing off while driving. According to Luttrell, a keyboard player from his REO Classics band was driving behind him at the time of the crash.

He was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, where he is currently recuperating. “I nodded off. I rolled the car over, and I woke up, and I was in a cocoon (the airbags),” Luttrell stated. He also mentioned that his car was “totaled” in the accident.
