Richard Gere and Family Support Nonprofit Open Arms with Heartwarming Photo

Madrid, Spain — Richard Gere and his family recently lent support to the nonprofit organization Open Arms by sharing a rare family photo on social media. The 75-year-old actor, his wife Alejandra Silva, and their two young sons wore matching gray hoodies emblazoned with the nonprofit’s logo.
The photo was posted on Saturday, May 24, 2025, capturing a moment of joy as the family stood outside, with the boys, Alexander and James, aged six and five, respectively, facing away from the camera. Gere and Silva smiled beside them, showcasing their commitment to a cause close to their hearts.
In the caption, Gere expressed, “This whole family is a proud supporter of @openarms_fund and their mission to save lives. ♥️” Open Arms is dedicated to protecting individuals attempting to reach Europe by sea, often fleeing from armed conflict, persecution, or poverty.
This post marks a significant moment for Gere and Silva, who married in April 2018 and recently moved back to Spain with their children. They also have Gere’s adult son, Homer, from a previous relationship, and Silva’s older son, Albert, from her past.
Gere has been an outspoken advocate for humanitarian causes over the years. In a past interview, he shared his dedication to Open Arms, stating, “I’m inspired by Open Arms. I’m deeply committed to their point of view of the universe. They’re dealing up close with these people, and that’s where you want to get your information.”
Silva spoke highly of Gere as a father during an interview earlier this year, saying, “Richard is a very devoted and present father. He loves to read them stories. It seems like an idyllic photo, but it’s true. He’s a great dad.”
The family intends to spend several years in Spain but plans to return to the U.S. for summer visits.
