Richard Gere Opens Up About Fatherhood and Family Life
Richard Gere, the acclaimed Hollywood actor best known for his roles in iconic films such as “Pretty Woman,” has always cherished his family life, particularly his role as a father. The 75-year-old actor shares his family experiences as he navigates life with his children from multiple marriages. Gere first became a father in 2000 when he welcomed his son, Homer, with ex-wife Carey Lowell. The couple was married for 11 years before separating in 2012. With his third wife, Alejandra Silva, a publicist and activist, Gere further embraced fatherhood. The couple has two children together, with the youngest born in April 2020.
Alejandra Silva has openly admired Gere’s parenting. On Father’s Day, she praised him, referring to him as “the most wonderful dad four boys could ever wish for” and commended his “endless patience, love, and dedication.” This devotion to parenting is shared by Gere, who expresses a deep love and pride for his children. He reflected on parenthood, saying, “The marginal stuff just doesn’t affect you anymore when you weigh it against the real things in your life. All the clichés [about parenthood] are true.”
Balancing a successful acting career with parenthood, Gere remains committed to being present for his children. He shared with The Guardian that his film project choices are influenced by his desire not to spend too much time away from his son. “Your family is more important than anything,” he said, illustrating a willingness to pass up projects to prioritize family time.
Gere and Alejandra Silva recently made a public appearance together at the Zurich Film Festival in Switzerland, exuding happiness and affection on the green carpet. The couple’s participation was part of a promotion for “Wisdom of Happiness,” a documentary in which Gere serves as the executive producer. The film features the Dalai Lama sharing insights on peace and happiness.
Despite a significant age gap, Alejandra Silva expressed confidence in their future together, saying Gere promised her “at least 20 good years,” highlighting his youthful energy. The couple, who married in 2018, have largely kept their children’s lives private, although Silva occasionally shares glimpses of family moments on social media.
