Riverside Natural Foods Recalls 2.5 Million Granola Bars Over Metal Contamination

CHICAGO, Feb. 18, 2025 – Riverside Natural Foods Inc. is recalling nearly 2.5 million cases of MadeGood granola bars due to potential metal contamination, classified by the Food and Drug Administration as a Class 2 recall. The recall affects several product flavors produced between January and November 2024.
The FDA indicated that the recall was prompted by concerns that the granola bars could pose a risk of “temporary or medically reversible health consequences.” In a statement, Riverside Natural Foods explained that the contamination might originate from a small, flat brush bristle used during production.
The affected MadeGood products include Chocolate Chip Granola Bars, Mixed Berry Granola Bars, Strawberry Granola Bars, Cookies & Crème Granola Bars, Chocolate Banana Granola Bars, Chocolate Drizzled Birthday Cake Granola Bars, Chocolate Drizzled Cookie Crumble Granola Bars, and Chocolate Drizzled Vanilla Granola Bars.
Customers who purchased these granola bars are encouraged to check their packages against the recall notice. Riverside Natural Foods is offering refunds for products included in the recall. The company has advised consumers seeking further information to visit its website or the FDA’s website.
In a recent report, the FDA stated, “Food recalls are critical to ensuring consumer safety, and companies are urged to be vigilant in monitoring their manufacturing processes to prevent contamination.” Riverside Natural Foods, based in Chicago, is taking this action voluntarily to ensure the health and safety of its customers.
