Rob Lowe And John Owen Lowe In Unstable Netflix Series

Netflix has announced the cancellation of the comedy series ‘Unstable,’ which was co-created, produced, and starred in by Rob Lowe and his son John Owen Lowe. The show, which premiered on March 30, 2023, and released its second season on August 1, 2024, failed to gain significant traction on the streaming platform.

The series, a workplace comedy, follows the story of a son living in the shadow of his genius father as they attempt to save the family business. Despite its unique premise, ‘Unstable’ did not make it into Netflix’s internal top 10 rankings in the weeks following the release of its second season. For context, the 10th-ranked show during its premiere week had 1.4 million views, calculated by hours viewed divided by running time.

The first season of ‘Unstable’ had a slightly better performance, making one appearance in Netflix’s own rankings and two appearances in Nielsen’s streaming charts. However, the second season did not replicate this success and was absent from Nielsen’s streaming rankings for August.

John Owen Lowe shared his experiences working on the show, including the challenges of starring alongside his father. In an interview with Andy Cohen, he mentioned having a mental breakdown early in the filming of the first season due to the pressure of working with his dad and the struggle to establish his own identity.
