Robert Downey Jr. Praises Pedro Pascal on Upcoming Marvel Roles

LONDON, UK — Pedro Pascal is generating buzz among fans and fellow actors alike as he takes on the role of Reed Richards in the forthcoming Marvel film “The Fantastic Four: First Steps.” His co-star, Robert Downey Jr., who plays the villain Doctor Doom, expressed admiration for Pascal amid the filming currently taking place at Pinewood Studios.
During a recent interview, Downey applauded Pascal’s growth in the industry, stating, “Pascal’s slow trajectory to becoming a household name who is on a wildly hot streak kind of reaffirms my faith in our industry.” This praise comes as Pascal acknowledges that not everyone is excited about his Marvel casting.
“I’m more aware of disgruntlement around my casting than anything I’ve ever done,” Pascal said, addressing comments about his age and suitability for the role. Despite this, he finds encouragement from Downey, noting, “He’s just so immediately generous and inviting that you feel like you can be afraid, you can be hungry, you can be ambivalent.” The two actors have grown close during the film’s production, with Downey hosting informal “homework days” at his home where the cast can practice scenes together.
While Pascal previously appeared in major series like “The Mandalorian” and “The Last of Us,” this film marks his official entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He is also set to reprise his role as Reed Richards in “Fantastic Four: First Steps,” which premieres on July 25, 2025. In this upcoming film, Pascal will portray the iconic hero known as Mr. Fantastic.
Pascal’s performance is highly anticipated, especially after his success in various acclaimed roles over the past few years. As he prepares for his role, he has expressed both excitement and nerves about entering the Marvel franchise. His co-star Vanessa Kirby noted his vulnerability as an actor, saying, “He shows himself to you straight away, and you trust that person because he’s revealing himself to you in this very brave way.”
While many fans eagerly await the upcoming films, the chemistry between Pascal and Downey suggests that the production of “Avengers: Doomsday,” set to release on December 28, 2026, will be filled with collaboration and support.
