Robinhood Trivia Contest Faces Backlash for Technical Glitches

San Francisco, CA – Fintech giant Robinhood launched a trivia contest on Wednesday that offered $1 million in Bitcoin prizes, but technical difficulties marred the event, leading to player frustration and complaints.
The contest, titled Robinhood Trivia, was open to U.S. customers who hold Robinhood accounts without specific restrictions. Participants faced 12 trivia questions with a brief 10-second time limit for each question.
While the prize pool was substantial, many users reported problems with the contest’s functionality. Multiple participants took to social media platform X, raising concerns that they were unable to select their answers during the game. One user lamented, “Robinhood Trivia isn’t working for many,” implying a widespread technical issue.
A vocal participant, identified as @BigRyanPark, described the experience as potentially a breach of contract, asserting that the game constituted unfair business practices under consumer protection laws. “I tapped Tesla and still got it wrong,” they added, referencing the initial question about the electric vehicle company.
In total, 392,000 users engaged with the trivia contest on its first day, according to political commentator Evan Kilgore, who has a following of over 500,000 on X. Out of those participants, 615 individuals managed to win amounts averaging $1,626.01 in Bitcoin, with some winners sharing “proof” of their earnings online.
Despite some users reporting functioning buttons during the game, the majority expressed dissatisfaction, with comments indicating that they faced disabled buttons or other technical glitches that undermined their chance to win. One user described the contest as a scam, claiming there was “no real chance to win” and accusing Robinhood of merely aiming to attract members to its premium subscription service.
Day 2 of Robinhood Trivia is set to commence on Thursday at 4:45 p.m. ET, with the company promising improvements based on user feedback. However, it remains to be seen whether the technical issues will be resolved ahead of the next round.
