Rock Hall of Fame Announces 2025 Nominees: Surprises and First-Timers

SAN DIEGO — The list of nominees for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame‘s class of 2025 features 14 artists, with eight making their first appearance on the ballot. This year’s nominees include notable names such as Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Billy Idol, Maná, and the Black Crowes, with the remaining six being repeat contenders like Oasis and Cyndi Lauper.

The nominees announced on February 12 range from influential rock pioneers to celebrated pop icons, showcasing the diverse musical landscape the Hall seeks to honor. This year’s induction ceremony will take place in Los Angeles this fall, with the exact date yet to be announced.

In a nod to their sustained popularity, the nominees will be voted on by more than 1,200 artists, historians, and music industry professionals. Winners will be revealed in late April alongside additional inductees selected by the nominating committee, which includes categories like Musical Influence and Musical Excellence.

Among the debuts this year, Maná makes history as the first band primarily singing in Spanish to receive a nomination. Additionally, Checker’s nomination comes after years of advocacy for his recognition, making him part of the Rock Hall conversation since 1984.

Oasis, having been previously nominated, has generated buzz with their scheduled live comeback after 16 years, which could enhance their candidacy. However, their past comments, such as Liam Gallagher’s dismissal of the Hall, may complicate their chances.

Former nominees Mariah Carey and Cyndi Lauper are back in contention this year. Carey boasts 19 No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 while Lauper’s hits, including “Time After Time,” continue to resonate with audiences.

The Black Crowes and OutKast are also vying for a spot, both having navigated internal conflicts before experiencing a resurgence in their careers. Buoyed by their strong musical legacies, they are now set to compete for induction.

As the music industry continues to evolve, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame remains a vital institution for honoring artists who have shaped contemporary soundscapes.
