A$AP Rocky Eyes James Bond Role After Met Gala and Trial Victory

NEW YORK, NY — A$AP Rocky, the Grammy-nominated rapper and fashion icon, is experiencing a career resurgence just days after co-chairing the 2025 Met Gala. Alongside his illustrious co-chair position, he is set to star with Denzel Washington in the highly anticipated film, “Highest 2 Lowest,” directed by Spike Lee.
Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, stated that acting provides him an escape from recent legal troubles. He faced assault charges related to a 2021 shooting incident but was found not guilty earlier this year. “That’s my only escape,” he told CNN. “That’s why I do it.” During the trial’s heat, Rocky channeled his experiences into his character, Yung Felon, a role he describes as deeply reflective of his own life circumstances.
“I was able to act like a piece of s**t who was going away for a long time, but didn’t realize the consequences,” Rocky explained. “In real life, I knew exactly what the consequences felt like.” His portrayal and the support of actors like Washington have further fueled Rocky’s aspirations.
Rocky expressed a desire to take on iconic film roles, explicitly stating, “I think I need to be the new Black James Bond. Like, why not?” He believes that stepping into such roles would be a natural evolution of his artistic career.
Additionally, Rocky is preparing to release his fourth studio album, titled “Don’t Be Dumb,” while also working on plans for a feature film with his partner, international superstar Rihanna. The couple, who is expecting their third child, has fused their creative energies as they navigate parenthood together.
Rocky recounted the emotional experience of his trial, remembering the relief and gratitude he felt upon hearing the not guilty verdict. “I was so thankful that the jury made that decision,” he said. “All praises and credit has to go to God. I’m a firm believer in prayer.”
As he looks ahead, A$AP Rocky is focused on expanding his horizons in both music and film, eager to make his mark in Hollywood and inspire others along the way.
