Rogue Ales & Spirits Shuts Down Operations in Newport, Oregon
NEWPORT, Oregon – Rogue Ales & Spirits announced the abrupt shutdown of all operations on Friday, Nov. 14, 2025. The Port of Newport confirmed that the company’s president informed them of the closure, which affects its restaurants and brewery.
Paula Miranda, executive director of the Port, stated, “They told us that unfortunately they are shutting down operations and letting the staff go, except for three employees that will make sure to properly shutdown the facility.” The move comes as Rogue Ales faces significant financial challenges, with reports indicating over $500,000 owed in back rent and taxes.
Miranda noted that the company has struggled with its rent payments, saying, “We have been talking to them quite a bit trying to come up with a plan on how they would pay us.” She emphasized the company’s importance to the community, as 60 employees will lose their jobs due to the closure.
Rogue Ales has been in operation since 1988, known for its craft beers, spirits, and various non-alcoholic beverages. However, declining sales in the craft beer industry, reported at a 30% drop nationally and 35% in Oregon, have contributed to its financial woes.
The beer producer occupies a sizable 47,000-square-foot facility at the Port. “It’s going to be a difficult site to lease because they have three facilities there,” Miranda explained, referring to the brewery, distillery, and Sunset Bar. The Port is already in talks with potential subtenants for the distillery space.
Although Miranda mentioned the Port has invested heavily to maintain the property, the closure poses a significant challenge. “This is a big blow to the community,” she said, signaling potential adjustments to their budget due to the loss of revenue from the brewery.
The Port remains committed to finding tenants for the now-vacant facilities, though the process may prove difficult. At this time, Rogue Ales has not commented further, and the community waits for updates on the fallout from this unexpected closure.
