Rory Gibson Takes Over as Michael Corinthos in General Hospital

LOS ANGELES, CA – Rory Gibson is set to make his debut as Michael Corinthos on ABC’s General Hospital this Friday, May 23. Gibson steps into the role previously held by Daytime Emmy-winner Chad Duell, who exited the series in January after a distinguished 15-year run.
“We are excited to welcome Rory to our show,” a spokesperson for General Hospital said.
Gibson, known for his role as Noah Newman on The Young and the Restless, shared details about his casting journey. “I originally sent in a tape for another character. After a chemistry read with Eden McCoy, who plays Josslyn Jacks, I was called in for another screen test for the role of Michael, which was kept under wraps,” he explained.
Despite not having much prior knowledge of his character’s history, Gibson took the time to prepare. “My family watched General Hospital religiously when I was growing up, so stepping into this role feels surreal,” he noted. “I wanted to avoid copying what Chad did before, so I focused more on character summaries provided by the show and conversations with friends who are fans.”
In his return as Michael, Gibson reveals the character is facing complicated emotions. “He is at a huge crossroads in his life. He has a thirst for vengeance and justice because of what Drew Quartermaine put him through,” he said. “He’s been through a lot and craves a peaceful life, but that may be elusive.”
Gibson’s transition has been supported by the cast and crew. “Mark Teschner, our casting director, helped me feel comfortable. The cast, especially Katey MacMullen and Sasha Gilmore, have been incredibly welcoming,” he said.
The new actor also shared unexpected fan reactions when he accidentally revealed his casting through social media. “I posted a seemingly innocent photo, and suddenly I was flooded with messages from fans recognizing the dressing room,” he recalled. “It was surprising how quickly they figured it out.”
With a promising debut ahead, Gibson expressed enthusiasm for his new role. “While I loved being Noah, I feel a strong connection to Michael Corinthos and the intense storylines he’s involved in,” he concluded. “This role is exciting and challenging, and I’m looking forward to what’s next.”
