Rowan Atkinson’s 1963 Jaguar E-Type to Auction After Iconic Role

NEC, UK — A 1963 Jaguar E-Type, famously driven by Rowan Atkinson in the Netflix series Man vs Bee, is set to be auctioned by Iconic Auctioneers next month. The car, known for its memorable on-screen mishaps, will cross the auction block on November 8.
This specific E-Type, designated chassis #9600 HP, gained notoriety after the character Trevor Bingley, portrayed by Atkinson, damages the vehicle while trying to escape from a bee. Following the filming, the car underwent a sympathetic restoration, preserving a visible cut in the rear quarter as a reminder of its cinematic history.
Rowan Atkinson, recognized for his roles in beloved comedies such as Mr. Bean, is also an avid car enthusiast. He has owned various prestigious vehicles throughout his life, including the Jaguar E-Type, often hailed as one of the most iconic cars in automotive history.
Jaguar first unveiled the E-Type in 1961, showcasing innovative aerodynamic designs by Malcolm Sayer. The Series 1 version was powered by a 3.8-liter engine with a top speed of around 150 mph, which later evolved into the Series 1.5 featuring enhanced performance attributes.
This E-Type, painted in Opalescent Gunmetal Grey, was originally supplied to the United States before being repatriated to the UK in 1989. After modifications for right-hand drive and interior upgrades, the car maintains its original engine block and impressive restoration details.
Iconic Auctioneers anticipates a strong bidding war for the car, as pristine examples regularly fetch prices above $1 million. By offering the E-Type without a reserve, bidders will have the opportunity to acquire a piece of both automotive and cinematic history.
