Russell Wilson Reveals How Ciara Changed His Life Plans

NEW YORK, NY — Russell Wilson, the New York Giants quarterback, recently shared how his relationship with singer Ciara altered his plans for life after divorce. During an appearance on Carmelo Anthony‘s podcast on May 29, Wilson recounted his intentions to remain single for a decade following his 2014 divorce from Ashton Meem.
Wilson explained that he spent a year after his divorce mapping out a life without romantic commitments. He said, “I had a whole plan for my life. I was like, ‘I’m going to be single for 10 years.’” However, that changed dramatically when he met Ciara just a year later.
The couple began dating in 2015, after meeting at a University of Wisconsin basketball game. Wilson described the moment as pivotal, noting, “C[iara] came, just changed everything.” He further revealed that three days before meeting her, he had written down five “non-negotiables” for a future partner.
In his conversation with Anthony, Wilson highlighted the importance of faith and support in a partner, saying, “The first one was, I want a woman of great faith. She’s got just great faith.” He also specified the need for independent and resilient qualities in a future companion. “I wanted a woman who would tilt the room when they walked in the room,” he shared.
Wilson and Ciara were married in July 2016 and have welcomed three children together: daughter Sienna, 8, son Win, 4, and daughter Amora, 1. Ciara also has a son, Future Zahir, 11, with rapper Future. Together, they made a public appearance courtside during the 2025 NBA playoffs, where the Knicks played against the Pistons.
Reflecting on fatherhood, Wilson expressed his fulfillment in raising children, stating, “It really shows you what love is.” His relationship with Ciara not only changed his personal life but also solidified his role as a devoted father.
