Ryan Gosling Disappointed By Barbie Director Greta Gerwig And Star Margot Robbie's Oscar Snubs

Ryan Gosling, who received an Oscar nomination for his supporting role as Ken in the hit movie Barbie, has expressed disappointment over the snubs received by the film’s director Greta Gerwig and star Margot Robbie in two major categories at the prestigious awards.

Gosling described it as an understatement to say he was disappointed that Gerwig and Robbie were overlooked for Best Director and Best Actress, respectively. He expressed that their work should be recognized alongside the other deserving nominees.

While Gerwig was not nominated for Best Director, she was acknowledged for Best Adapted Screenplay with her husband and co-writer Noah Baumbach. Robbie, on the other hand, missed out on a Best Actress nomination but received recognition for Best Picture as a producer.

In an interview with Variety, Gosling emphasized his happiness for his co-star America Ferrera, who was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Gloria in the film. Ferrera shared her disappointment over Robbie and Gerwig’s snubs, praising their exceptional work.

Gosling, in a statement, expressed his honor for the nomination and his pride in portraying the plastic doll Ken. However, he highlighted that there would be no Ken without Barbie, and without Gerwig and Robbie, the film would not have been a success.

The talented duo, according to Gosling, made audiences laugh, broke hearts, pushed cultural boundaries, and created history. He reiterated that their contributions should not be overlooked.

Gosling’s statement came after British record producer Mark Ronson also recognized Gerwig and Robbie’s pivotal roles in the film’s creation. Ronson, who received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song with Andrew Wyatt, stated that there is no “just Ken” without Barbie and credited Robbie for putting the entire film together. He also commended Gerwig for her ability to attract audiences back to cinemas.

The Barbie movie received a total of eight Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Costume Design, Production Design, and two original songs. Gerwig’s nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay and Robbie’s nomination as a producer for Best Picture showcase their importance in the film’s success.

The Academy Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on March 10th at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
