Ryan Gosling Stars in New ‘Star Wars’ Film Set for 2027 Release

LOS ANGELES, CA — Ryan Gosling is set to headline a new ‘Star Wars‘ film announced during a panel at Star Wars Celebration in Japan this week. The movie, titled ‘Starfighter,’ is expected to hit theaters on May 28, 2027.
Gosling’s involvement had been rumored for several months before being officially confirmed during the event, where he made a surprise appearance alongside Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy and director Shawn Levy. ‘This is not a prequel, this is not a sequel. It’s a new adventure,’ Levy explained.
Levy also expressed excitement over the new project, stating, ‘It was a great process. This is no longer a ‘Star Wars’ movie in development. This is a ‘Star Wars’ movie we’re making this fall!’ Gosling added, ‘This script is so good. It’s filled with so much heart and adventure.’ The film is described as a standalone adventure occurring five years after the events of the 2019 film ‘The Rise of Skywalker.’
This announcement comes at a time when the ‘Star Wars’ franchise has faced backlash from fans over recent films, stirring up heated discussions about the direction of the beloved universe. Notably, author Stephen King weighed in on the fandom’s criticism, suggesting some criticisms were unfounded. He quoted Bob Dylan, stating that some fans seem to be keen to criticize for the sake of it, irrespective of the films’ quality.
Amidst this backdrop, Simon Kinberg is developing a new trilogy expected to include Episodes 10, 11, and 12. However, Lucasfilm has struggled to expand beyond the Skywalker Saga, with many ongoing projects still tied to its legacy, including the upcoming ‘Rey’ solo film, which Kennedy confirmed is in development.
Listeners can anticipate ‘Starfighter’ not only as a return to the galaxy far, far away but also as a pivot towards introducing new characters and narratives independent of established storylines from previous ‘Star Wars’ entries.
