LOS ANGELES, March 14, 2025 — Ryan Hurst, renowned for his impactful roles in FX’s Sons of Anarchy and AMC’s The Walking Dead, has joined the ensemble cast of Christopher Nolan’s ambitious film adaptation of Homer’s epic poem, The Odyssey. The Universal feature is currently underway, with a star-studded roster that includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, and Jon Bernthal.

Other notable cast members include Mia Goth, Elliot Page, and Samantha Morton. According to Universal, the film is characterized as a “mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX film technology.” This adaptation marks the first time Homer’s foundational saga will be presented on IMAX screens, with a planned theatrical release on July 17, 2026.

The film follows Greek hero King Odysseus, portrayed by Damon, as he embarks on a grueling 10-year journey home to Ithaca after the Trojan War. Odysseus’ odyssey is fraught with divine interruptions and mythical creatures, including Cyclopes. Hurst’s acting career spans several decades, beginning in the 1990s with appearances in films such as Remember the Titans and We Were Soldiers, as well as notable television episodes including Bates Motel. His most recognized role remains that of Opie Winston in Sons of Anarchy, which gained him significant acclaim and recognition.

Most recently, Hurst appeared in the Disney+ original series The Mysterious Benedict Society and will be featured in the upcoming Netflix series The Abandons, alongside Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson. He is represented by UTA and Piper Kaniecki Marks.
