Ryan Scanlon Eliminated from Next Level Chef, Receives Mentorship Offer

EDGARTOWN, Massachusetts – Ryan Scanlon, a contestant on the reality cooking show Next Level Chef, was eliminated on Thursday evening but received praise from the judges. Scanlon, who grew up on Martha's Vineyard, reached the final six in the competition hosted by celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, competing for a $250,000 grand prize and mentorship opportunities.
During the episode, Scanlon prepared a filet mignon that the judges deemed overcooked. Despite considering steaks to be his specialty, he admitted that his confidence may have hindered his performance. “It’s just me getting in my own way which is crushing me,” Scanlon said before entering the elimination round.
In a subsequent 25-minute cook-off against fellow contestant Megan Keno, Scanlon had to cook an entire fish, a skill he learned while fishing in Vineyard’s waters as a teenager. Unfortunately, in the final moments, he accidentally ripped the tail off a sea bream he was preparing. “I’ve never done that in any restaurant or even at home with friends and family,” he remarked.
Although the judges praised the flavor of the fish, the broken tail and the use of rosemary ultimately cost him the competition. Ramsay told Scanlon, “I’d love to get you in for a start so we can actually continue this journey and literally work together.”
Scanlon’s personal life added depth to his journey, as his girlfriend, Angelia Childers, had given birth to their daughter, Stasia, just two weeks prior to his departure for filming in Ireland. Family was his primary motivation during the competition.
Ramsay offered encouragement, stating, “You may not be a Next Level Chef, but at 22 years of age, you have this heart of gold that is destined for success.” With tears in his eyes, Scanlon expressed his gratitude, promising not to let Ramsay down.
