Samajwadi Party's National General Secretary Resigns Over Alleged Discrimination

Samajwadi Party’s National General Secretary, Swami Prasad Maurya, has tendered his resignation, citing discrimination within the party’s leadership. Maurya addressed his resignation letter to the party chief, Akhilesh Yadav, expressing his decision to step down from his position while pledging to continue supporting the party’s growth.

In his letter, Maurya highlighted instances where his statements were labeled as personal opinions rather than party positions, unlike those of other leaders. He voiced his disappointment at the lack of solidarity from senior party members when he faced opposition attacks.

Notably, Maurya’s controversial remarks regarding the Ramcharitmanas and the Ayodhya temple consecration ceremony had sparked debates and backlash both within and outside the Samajwadi Party.

The resignation comes after Maurya’s proposal for a Rath Yatra to protest against the sale of national assets and uphold constitutional values was allegedly not given the green light.

Swami Prasad Maurya, who previously switched from the BJP to the Samajwadi Party before the 2022 elections, had contested the assembly polls but did not secure a victory.

His departure raises questions about internal dynamics and ideological disagreements within the Samajwadi Party, especially regarding sensitive issues like religious sentiments and party unity.
