BURBANK, California — Warner Bros. announced on May 6, 2025, that the much-anticipated sequel, ‘Practical Magic 2,’ will hit theaters on Sept. 18, 2026. The film reunites stars Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, who will reprise their roles as witch sisters Sally and Gillian Owens.

The original ‘Practical Magic,’ released in 1998, follows the story of the Owens sisters, cursed to face tragedy in love. The sequel reportedly draws inspiration from later installments in Alice Hoffman‘s book series, though specific plot details remain under wraps.

A teaser released by Warner Bros. features Bullock and Kidman reciting a chant: ‘Tooth of wolf and morning dew. Something old and something new. Let the spell begin to mix. Sept. 18, 2026.’ The release date places ‘Practical Magic 2’ in direct competition with Sony’s reboot of ‘Resident Evil,’ directed by Zach Cregger.

Despite mixed reviews during its initial box office run, ‘Practical Magic’ has since gained a cult following. Attempts to expand the franchise included a failed prequel series in 2019, which was ultimately scrapped. Susanne Bier is directing the sequel, with Akiva Goldsman, who co-wrote the first film, penning the screenplay.

Kidman expressed optimism about the sequel’s progress during an interview with Variety, stating, ‘It’s moving ahead rapidly.’ Both actresses will also serve as producers alongside Denise Di Novi, the producer from the original film.

The original film, directed by Griffin Dunne, grossed over $47 million at the box office and has been praised for its themes of sisterhood and empowerment. Di Novi confirmed that the sequel aims to honor the original film’s legacy.
