Sarah Snook Delves into Parental Horror in ‘All Her Fault’
Melbourne, Australia – Sarah Snook, the star and executive producer of the upcoming thriller series ‘All Her Fault,’ shared insights into her challenging role as a mother whose child goes missing after a playdate. Snook, who has an 18-month-old daughter, describes the storyline as ‘every parent’s worst nightmare.’
During a recent interview on set in Melbourne, Snook reflected on how motherhood has given her a new emotional depth in portraying her character. ‘I don’t think I would have been able to do this role before now,’ she noted, emphasizing a difference in perspective since becoming a parent. ‘There’s a wealth of emotion to draw on.’
The series, which is adapted from the 2021 novel by Irish writer Andrea Mara, aims to expand the original story’s scope, as director Minkie Spiro explained. The narrative shifts from suburban Dublin to the vibrant city of Chicago, creating a more complex backdrop for the storyline.
‘We wanted to make it much more expansive,’ Spiro said. The relocation to the Chicago area presents not just a family drama but also encompasses various settings that play a vital role in the abduction mystery, including a school and different neighborhoods.
Alongside Snook, the series stars Jake Lacy, who plays her husband Peter, and features an ensemble cast with potential suspects surrounding the couple. Themes of domestic labor inequality and media scrutiny on women are woven throughout the plot, highlighting contemporary social issues.
Executive producer Nigel Marchant emphasized the show’s goal of highlighting the disparities in domestic responsibilities, stating, ‘It talks about the inequality of domestic labour in many heterosexual relationships.’
Snook, reflecting on her personal life, noted that her marriage to fellow actor, who she met on the set of ‘Oddball,’ brings a balance of responsibilities, especially after their child’s birth. ‘The logistics, the scheduling—the mental load of that tends to fall to the female partner in the marriage. And I think it should be equal.’
‘All Her Fault’ premieres on Foxtel/Binge on November 7, and Snook seems ready to tackle the complexities of such an emotional role. ‘I think the challenge of something different was the thing that really drew me,’ she remarked.
