Savannah Guthrie Celebrates Mother’s 83rd Birthday with Heartfelt Tribute
PHOENIX, Ariz. — NBC anchor Savannah Guthrie shared a rare and touching tribute to her mother, Nancy Guthrie, on her 83rd birthday, posting a glamorous photo of the celebration on Instagram. The heartfelt post highlighted the close bond between the mother-daughter duo, who have remained inseparable despite living miles apart.
The photo, taken at a chic restaurant, showed Nancy dressed in a sparkling black and silver cardigan layered over a striped top. She accessorized with a pearl necklace and showcased a radiant French manicure as she raised a glass in celebration. Nancy’s auburn hair was styled in a soft pixie cut, complementing her natural makeup look.
“A big cheers and happy birthday to this beauty. I love you, Mom,” Savannah captioned the post, which quickly garnered attention from fans and followers.
Nancy, a mother of three, raised Savannah and her siblings alone after the death of her husband, Charles, during Savannah’s senior year of high school. In a 2022 interview, Savannah reflected on her mother’s selflessness, recalling how Nancy encouraged her to pursue her dreams despite the emotional challenges of leaving home.
“My father died when I was entering my senior year in high school. I then lived at home all through college,” Savannah said. “We didn’t have money to afford the dorm. And that was thing one, but the other was that my sister and I really felt like we should stick with my mom and not leave her alone.”
She added, “When I moved to Butte, Montana, this was it. And it was really hard for me to leave her. But she said, ‘If you can’t leave me, then I didn’t do my job right, Savannah.’ She just gave me permission to go.”
Savannah, now a mother of two herself, shares daughter Vale, 10, and son Charles, 8, with her husband, Michael Feldman. The Today Show anchor has often spoken about the profound influence her mother has had on her life and career.
In addition to her personal reflections, Savannah recently addressed the departure of her longtime co-anchor, Hoda Kotb, from The Today Show. Kotb, who left the show in January after a decade-long tenure, has been a close friend and colleague of Guthrie. Savannah expressed pride in Kotb’s decision to embrace new opportunities, including potential projects like a wellness app and exclusive interviews for future Olympic events.
As Savannah continues to balance her professional and personal life, her tribute to Nancy serves as a reminder of the enduring strength of family bonds and the importance of celebrating life’s milestones.
