Selena Gomez and David Henrie to Reunite for ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ Sequel
Selena Gomez and David Henrie, the beloved stars of the hit Disney Channel show ‘Wizards of Waverly Place,’ are teaming up once again for a highly-anticipated sequel. The duo will not only be reprising their roles, but will also serve as executive producers for the new project, which has already received the green light for a pilot episode.
The pilot, written and executive produced by Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas, will continue the story after a mysterious incident at WizTech, the magical school attended by the Russo siblings – Justin and Alex. In the sequel, an adult Justin Russo has left behind his wizarding powers to lead a normal human life with his wife and two sons. However, his life takes an unexpected turn when a powerful young wizard arrives seeking his guidance, forcing Justin to embrace his past and ensure the future of the Wizarding World.
In an Instagram post, Selena Gomez expressed her excitement for the show’s revival, although she is currently confirmed to appear only in the pilot episode. David Henrie, on the other hand, will be a series regular. The main cast for the sequel has been finalized, with Janice LeAnn Brown set to portray the powerful young wizard, Alkaio Thiele as Justin’s oldest son Roman Russo, and Mimi Gianopulos as Justin’s wife Giada.
This ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ reunion has generated a buzz among fans who grew up watching the original series, which aired from 2007 to 2012. The show, which also starred Jake T. Austin, Jennifer Stone, Maria Canals-Barrera, and David DeLuise, won two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Children’s Program. It even had a successful movie adaptation, ‘Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie,’ released in 2009.
This sequel adds to the growing trend of rebooting popular kids’ shows from the 2000s. The announcement comes as a happy surprise for fans, especially after recent revivals of shows like ‘iCarly,’ ‘Zoey 101,’ and the now-cancelled ‘Lizzy McGuire’ update. The new ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ project promises to bring back the magic in 2024, as confirmed by David Henrie in an enthusiastic TikTok video.
