Selena Gomez Embraces Co-Stars’ Eating Habits on ‘Only Murders’

LOS ANGELES, March 21, 2025 — Selena Gomez revealed she has picked up some quirky eating habits from her co-stars Steve Martin and Martin Short while filming their hit Hulu series, ‘Only Murders in the Building.’ During a recent appearance on ‘Hot Ones,’ Gomez, 32, joked about her co-stars’ daily routines, saying, ‘I sit there and read the news with them every day… and they eat the same thing every day. And now, I eat the same thing every day.’
According to Gomez, Martin and Short stick to a simple rotation of meals, opting either for a tuna sandwich with Dijon mustard or a sushi platter during filming breaks. The pop star shared, ‘And now, all I eat is a chicken salad sandwich. For some reason, I’m excited to eat my meal next to theirs.’ Gomez has developed a fond attachment to her co-stars, describing them as the ‘best’ and noting that their habits have somewhat influenced her lifestyle.
Gomez has grown close to Martin and Short since they began working together on the series, which premiered in 2021. The trio, currently in the midst of filming the show’s fifth season, has cultivated a friendship characterized by humor and warmth.
Steve Martin, 79, expressed his affection for Gomez in a social media post congratulating her on her engagement to music producer Benny Blanco. ‘Congratulations to Benny and Selena, from her two weird uncles,’ Martin wrote on Instagram, solidifying the familial bond that has developed among the three actors.
In additional lighter moments, Gomez shared that she tests out her Rare Beauty makeup products on her co-stars during filming. ‘I put Rare on the guys all the time,’ she said, emphasizing the camaraderie on set. While Martin’s communication style involves formal emails, Gomez playfully noted, ‘It’s OK to send a little text.’
The rapport among the actors has contributed to the show’s chemistry, with Martin praising Gomez’s talent and performance. ‘Her performance is rich and adult. She’s learned to underplay when necessary,’ he remarked in 2021. Martin also described Gomez as a ‘solid rock foundation’ amidst his and Short’s more manic personalities.
Despite their differences, the trio has formed a close-knit partnership, often jokingly referring to themselves as the ‘Three Musketeers.’ As they continually work and share laughter on set, their bonding moments represent the heart and charm of ‘Only Murders in the Building.’
