Sesame Street Finds New Home at Netflix and PBS

NEW YORK, NY — Sesame Street has secured a new streaming deal with Netflix, ensuring new episodes of the beloved children’s program will be available worldwide starting later this year. The announcement follows Warner Bros. Discovery’s decision not to renew its previous output deal with HBO Max, a move that left the show’s future uncertain.
The upcoming season, Season 56, will differ from previous formats by featuring longer segments and introducing a new animated series called Tales From 123. In a significant shift, episodes will now premiere simultaneously on Netflix, PBS, and the PBS Kids app, providing broader access for viewers.
“This unique public-private partnership will enable Sesame Workshop to bring our research-based curriculum to young children around the world,” said Sherri Westin, CEO of Sesame Workshop. She emphasized the importance of making the show accessible to children in the U.S. through public television.
Paula Kerger, president of PBS, echoed Westin’s sentiments, stating, “We’re proud to continue our partnership in the pursuit of having a profound impact on the lives of children for years to come.”
The deal is also a critical financial support for Sesame Workshop, which has faced budget constraints earlier this year. The non-profit organization has organized its annual fundraiser, highlighted by this new agreement with Netflix and PBS, marking a hopeful turn for the program.
With this partnership, Sesame Street promises to keep educating and entertaining children, a mission that has become central to the program’s legacy over the last 50 years.
