Seth Meyers Hbo Corrections Emmy Nominations

NEW YORK, NY — Seth Meyers implored Emmy voters at a recent panel to acknowledge his digital shortform spinoff, Corrections, which has faced stiff competition without taking home any awards.

Corrections has been nominated three times for Outstanding Short Form Comedy, Drama or Variety Series, but has yet to win, losing to Carpool Karaoke: The Series and Only Murders in the Building: One Killer Question. Meyers expressed concern about a repeat of the snubs experienced by HBO’s The Wire, which was also overlooked during its original run.

“It’s a f*cking lock. I know you’re not supposed to say this, but I think there’s a real risk for Emmy voters,” Meyers joked during his appearance at Deadline’s Documentary, Unscripted & Variety panel. He emphasized that Corrections deserves recognition, stating, “If you don’t vote for it, there’s this chance that 20 years from now, it’s like The Wire, where people are like, ‘You know that never won an Emmy?’” He compared the quality of Corrections to The Wire, adding, “I think anybody who watches both would say the same.”

Additionally, Meyers highlighted that Late Night with Seth Meyers could also be nominated for Outstanding Talk Series. He discussed the political landscape, particularly how he addressed the Commander-in-Chief’s remark calling him “Marble Mouth Meyers.” Meyers noted the shift in tone for his show, aiming for a more joyful vibe compared to 2016.

“Obviously, the burden of this administration is heavier on a lot of other people more than it is on us, so it’s one foot in front of the other,” he said. “We put a lot of talk into the tone. The whole world is trying to come to terms with it. We knew that if we were tonally the exact same, it would feel almost like a television show that was doing repeats when they should be doing live shows.”

Meyers succinctly summarized the desire for a lighter approach while navigating current events, reflecting a new chapter in late-night comedy.
