Severe Weather Alerts as Storms Hit Northern Arizona

PHOENIX, Ariz. — A second storm system is affecting northern Arizona today, leading to a Flash Flood Watch for the northwest region. The watch does not extend to the Phoenix metro area, but the storm brings a slight 20% chance of light showers in the Valley during the early morning hours on Wednesday.
While rainfall in the Valley is expected to be light, storms in northern Arizona will likely return tomorrow after diminishing tonight. The forecast indicates a considerable chance of showers in the northern areas again.
Temperatures are projected to rise significantly as the weekend approaches. By Thursday, highs are expected to reach around 100 degrees Fahrenheit, and by Saturday, temperatures may push up to 106. Sunday and Monday might see peaks of 108 degrees. Although these figures are not record-breaking, they will be 5-7 degrees above normal for this time of year.
No heat warnings are anticipated this weekend, but the heat risk for Sunday, while below alert level, is categorized as moderate. Residents are advised to remain cautious during this heat wave.
In another development, the storms bringing this unseasonable weather in Arizona are fueled by remnant tropical moisture and have resulted in widespread rainfall across the state. Some areas in the West Valley recorded over an inch of rain overnight.
The forecast suggests dry conditions returning towards the end of the week as temperatures begin to climb. Highs in the Valley are expected to peak in the upper 90s on Tuesday and Wednesday before re-entering the triple digits.
Flooding and runoff remain potential risks, particularly near washes, creeks, and slot canyons. Weather enthusiasts are encouraged to share any photos or videos of significant weather events they may encounter.
